Team Hadleigh

This was part of a wider project funded by Essex County Council and the Olympic Committee. A mountain bike track was being build specifically for the Olympic Games and to mark the change in landscape, the council wanted to commemorate Hadleighs ever changing history in the making of four banners. This inter-generational project used heat transfers to apply childrens drawings onto fabric. This was then embellished by a group of adults.

Meadowside Day Centre

During 12 weeks the participants who regularly go to this day centre worked on a reminiscence project using various techniques in collage, applique, poly-block printing and drawing.

Canalside Activity Centre

Working together with young people that use the centre, we came up with a theme for an outdoor wall installation made up of over 200 triangular, tessellating, bas relief ceramic tiles. The theme was 'flow' and each tile reflected the idea of movement and water.

St. Quintins

This 6 week project to place in South Kensington at the St. Quintin's day centre. The aim of this project was to support young adults with learning difficulties in the designing and making of two mosaic table tops and stepping stones that were then installed in St.Q's garden.

Archbishop Sumner School

'Invention' was the theme chosen for this project to co-inside with the topic that term. The students were asked to invent a robot to help them out with their everyday lives. This robot was then developed into a costume made from recyclable materials. In the meantime the group developed a story around their newly made characters. Once the costumes were finished we brought their story to life with the help of a film artist and ended the project with a screening for family and friends.

Eversfield Community Centre

This 12 week project was part of the outreach program of nearby arts organisation, Community Focus. Based in a community centre in Barnet, the project centred around felt making and embroidery with a client group of 50 and over.

Valuing Elders

This is a 3 year project located in the abandoned Lillian Baylis Old School in Lambeth. This project is run by Creative Sparkworks and aims to give elders of the local community a place to meet up, have a cup of tea, a chat and some lunch and to create artwork with guidance from the tutors. I help manage the space and support the group in activities such as mosaic making, ceramics, felt making, batik and screen printing. Other activities include; walk and draw ( when its warm enough) drawing in the studio, trips to gardens, galleries and museums, block printing, crochet and knitting and applique and embroidery. This project is so important for our regular clients who need the social interaction as much as anything else.

Textiles at the Stephen Lawrence Centre

This textiles project has he theme of identity. The client group was a mixture of female refugees and adults with learning difficulties. This project took place over 6 weeks, in which time participants learnt how to create prints from poly-blocks, embroider and applique and use themselves as inspiration for their work.

                                          Work in progress

This project was part of a wider creative project celebrating Lambeth's history, specifically Lambeth walk and the factory that was the home of Royal Doulton Ceramics. This was an inter-generational project where I lead a group of young people on a walk around Lambeth, with a walk and draw session to gather information on what Lambeth walk is like now. The information collected was used as inspiration when creating handmade felt swatches back at the studio. The felt swatches where then embroidered by an elders sewing club, who added detail reflecting Lambeth past and present. The swatches were then sewn together to create a wall hanging that went up on display at Lambeth walk Surgery.

Shadow Puppetry

This workshop explored the idea of shadow puppetry. We followed a piece pf text from an adaption of Roald Dahls 'The BFG' Whilst the kids designed and made their own puppets and set pieces, I made the two screens that the work was projected onto. The first screen represents the caves in which the giants lived and the second was where dreams were caught.
